Actor Sir Idris Elba was knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday for his services to young people. The honour recognises his work through the E Hope Foundation, which he founded in 2022 to support empowerment, education, community development, youth advocacy, and sustainable initiatives.
Olympic skating champions Dame Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean also received honors for their services to skating and voluntary work, while actress and comedian Dame Meera Syal was recognized for her contributions to drama and charity.
Elba previously received a grant from the Prince’s Trust, now the King’s Trust, at the age of 15 to attend the National Youth Music Theatre. He is also working on a Netflix documentary marking 50 years since the charity was founded by King Charles. Torvill and Dean, who won Olympic gold at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games, were also honored, with Dame Jayne describing the recognition as “perfect.”
