A legal notice has been issued to the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, demanding Tk 10 crore in compensation for the family of Abul Kalam Azad, who was killed when a Metrorail bearing pad fell on him in Farmgate, Dhaka. The notice, sent by lawyer Enamul Haque Nabin, also calls for a permanent job for a family member. It alleges the accident resulted from Metrorail’s negligence and mismanagement, posing a serious public safety risk. The notice criticized the government’s announced assistance of Tk 5 lakh as inadequate and insulting, warning that legal action will follow if the demands are not met within 30 days.
