A legal notice has been issued to Aarong, one of Bangladesh’s leading fashion brands, demanding an immediate stop to charging customers for its paper shopping bags. Supreme Court lawyer Nishat Farzana, a regular customer, stated that Aarong used to provide these logo-printed bags free of charge, but since September 2025, customers are being forced to buy them, with the company claiming that proceeds will support tree-planting initiatives. Farzana criticized this practice as unfair, unethical, and a form of extortion, noting that the bags are made of low-quality recycled paper that deteriorates quickly. According to the notice, customers are essentially paying to advertise Aarong’s brand without receiving any added value or durability. Farzana also highlighted that Aarong’s newly launched reusable fabric bags are overpriced and impractical, adding extra financial pressure on ordinary consumers. The notice warns that if Aarong does not stop charging for the paper bags within ten days, legal action will be taken against the company.
