Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) chief organizer for the northern region, Sarjis Alam, has stated that discussions about elections should not take place until former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is brought back to Bangladesh and executed.
He made these remarks on Tuesday morning while visiting the graves of students and civilians who were killed during the coup at Rayerbazar in Dhaka.
Amid the mourning of the victims' families, Sarjis accused Hasina of orchestrating murders to maintain power, claiming that many individuals went missing after their deaths and remain unaccounted for. He also alleged that hundreds of bodies from the Shapla incident were never recovered, leaving families in distress.
Sarjis emphasized that no other national issue should be considered until justice is served. He insisted that Hasina must be brought back, put on trial, and executed for her alleged crimes. He further accused Chhatra League, Jubo League, Awami League activists, and certain law enforcement members of aiding in these actions.
According to him, the interim government must take responsibility for ensuring justice before any elections take place. He warned that if the government fails to hold Hasina accountable, it will lose its legitimacy. Sarjis concluded by stating that until Hasina is tried and executed, no one in Bangladesh should talk about elections.
