Jagannath University (JnU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim joined a mass hunger strike on Sunday (January 12) in solidarity with students who are protesting for three key demands. These include transferring the second campus project to the army and providing temporary accommodation for students. Dr. Karim participated in the strike at 7 PM, alongside Treasurer Professor Dr. Sabina Sharmin, Proctor Professor Dr. Tajamul Haque, Teachers' Association General Secretary Professor Dr. Rois Uddin, and Professor Dr. Belal Hossain, all showing their support for the students' cause.
The hunger strike had started earlier that day at 8:30 AM in front of the university's central Shaheed Minar, where students were demanding the immediate signing of an agreement to hand over the second campus project to the army, the rapid construction of steel-based buildings at Bani Bhaban and Dr. Habibur Rahman Hall in Old Dhaka, and the provision of housing allowances for 70% of students until permanent accommodations are available.
