In a case, the police detained Shafikul, the organizational secretary of the Awami League's Ward 2 in Mirzapur Union, Sadar Upazila, as a suspect. Shafikul is the son of the late Nurul Haque from the same union. After his arrest, 70 to 80 members of Jamaat-e-Islami staged a protest march and went to the police station, demanding his release. The officer-in-charge (OC) of Joydebpur Police Station, Mohammad Abdul Halim, confirmed the information. He said, "The Awami League leader was detained around 7 PM on Friday. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders came to the police station to free him." "They can come with their demands, but there is no opportunity to release him. He has been brought in as a suspect in a case," Halim added. Abdul Bari, the Nayeb Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami's Gazipur Sadar Upazila, told, "The person the police arrested is currently a member of our organization."
