In Lakshmipur, businessman Sohel Rana and another individual have been implicated in a case for possessing six illegally prepared ballot seals. Police have shown Sohel as arrested in the case.
On Wednesday (February 4), Additional Police Superintendent (Administration & Finance) Hosain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi confirmed the matter. Earlier, police filed the case at Sadar Model Police Station as the complainant.
He stated that cases have been filed against two individuals, and Sohel has been presented as arrested. Under Section 164, a statement was recorded from him, during which he also named Sharif Hossain Sourav, General Secretary of Ward-4 Jamaat in the municipality, as being involved in the incident.
Following the seizure of the seals, both BNP and Jamaat held rival press conferences on Tuesday night (February 3). At a press briefing, BNP Joint Secretary General and Dhanner Sheesh candidate for Lakshmipur-3 (Sadar), Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, claimed the seized seals were linked to Jamaat and identified Sohel as a Jamaat worker.
In a counter-press conference, the rival candidate and Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Jamaat, Rezaul Karim, denied that Sohel had any affiliation with Jamaat.
Sohel, son of Khorshed Alam from Ward-1, Tumchar village, Sadar Upazila, is the owner of Mariam Printers on Puraton Adalat Road in the district town.
Based on a tip-off, police raided his shop on Tuesday afternoon, seizing six ballot seals from 16 houses, a computer, and a mobile phone, and subsequently took him into custody at the police station.
