Police in Jajira, Shariatpur, have arrested 60-year-old Abul Bashar, an Imam and madrasa teacher, following accusations of attempting to rape a six-year-old student. The incident allegedly occurred on Tuesday afternoon after Bashar lured the child into a private room at the madrasa. Local residents apprehended the accused upon discovering the situation and held him until law enforcement arrived.
Following his detention, a video circulated on social media in which Bashar attributed his actions to "the devil’s trap" and claimed an affiliation with Jamaat-e-Islami. Tajul Islam, a leader with the Jajira Upazila Jamaat, has since clarified that Bashar is merely a supporter, not an official party leader, and stated that the organization supports justice if the charges are proven. Jajira Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Saleh Ahmed, confirmed the arrest and stated that the legal process is ongoing.
