Jagannath University Student A.R. Dhrubo Converts to Islam, Takes the Name Abdur Rahman Dhrubo
A.R. Dhrubo, a student from the 2020–21 academic year in the Chemistry Department at Jagannath University, has embraced Islam. He publicly shared the news through a Facebook post on Friday night.
Originally from Baliakandi in the Rajbari district, Dhrubo has changed his name to Abdur Rahman Dhrubo following his conversion. On February 23 this year, he completed all legal procedures and officially changed his name through an affidavit at the Dhaka District Judge Court.
In his affidavit, he stated:
"I am a permanent citizen of Bangladesh by birth and legally competent to make any affidavit. I am an adult, capable of making decisions about my life. Though I was born into the Hindu faith, I began to feel disconnected from it during my school years. Over time, I grew spiritually inclined toward Islam. I believe Islam is a complete way of life that brings peace and purpose both in this world and the hereafter."
Encouraging others to seek the truth, he wrote:
"To those searching for truth, I urge you—read the Qur’an with an open heart. If you're sincere, Allah will guide you. I found peace through this path. It was the Qur’an that first gave me answers to questions like: Why am I here? What is the purpose of life?"
Dhrubo also shared that he had long battled depression and faced various personal crises. During those difficult times, he felt repeatedly drawn back from despair by an unseen force. These experiences sparked his spiritual journey, ultimately leading him to Islam.
In his Facebook post addressed to his family and friends, he said:
"I understand that not everyone will accept my decision easily. But I ask you—read the Qur’an at least once. Not to argue, but to discover the truth."
