Ismail Barhoum, the newly appointed prime minister of the Gaza Strip, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on March 23, just days after taking office. He replaced Isham Da-Lish, the former prime minister, who was killed by Israeli forces on March 18. The Israeli defense minister confirmed Barhoum's death, stating that he was killed at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, where he was receiving treatment.
The airstrike, which also injured eight others, caused a fire that was later brought under control. The incident was captured by Al Jazeera and BBC Arabic, with a video showing a missile hitting the hospital while an Al Jazeera journalist was preparing for a live broadcast. Israel's defense forces, along with the Shin Bet intelligence agency, confirmed Barhoum's death, stating he was a senior Hamas official.
