During a campaign event yesterday at Dhupkhola Ground in Old Dhaka, BNP candidate for Dhaka-6, Engineer Ishraq Hossain, criticized NCP candidate Nasiruddin Patwari, contesting in Dhaka-8, calling him “mentally unstable” and saying he “needs medical treatment.”
Patwari, the Shapla Kali candidate, had urged action against extortionists and landlords in his speech. Responding to this, Ishraq described Patwari’s remarks as “obscene” and demanded a public apology.
Speaking to the media on Monday (January 26) during a campaign walk in Sutrapur, Ishraq reiterated that Patwari’s statements indicated mental disorder and stressed that he requires medical attention. He also added that Patwari needs guidance on maintaining political decorum and appropriate language toward opponents.
Ishraq emphasized, “We believe that the ultimate power rests with the people. Citizens will cast their votes in a free and fair election, and we have full confidence in the electorate’s judgment.”
Commenting on the overall situation in the country, the BNP candidate said that the situation across Dhaka and nationwide has been generally stable. However, he noted that reckless and obscene remarks by some individuals are causing discomfort among voters and urged everyone to maintain peace.
He further stated that Patwari should publicly apologize for his comments; otherwise, his party should take organizational action, including expelling him and canceling his candidacy.
Earlier on Monday, Ishraq Hossain participated in a meeting organized under the banner of doctors, officers, and staff of Dhaka National Medical College and Hospital, where he pledged to ensure healthcare access for all and committed to reforms and improvements in the national healthcare system.
