Cricket Ireland has taken a clear stance amid the ongoing complications surrounding the T20 World Cup, confirming that it will not travel to India for its matches. The board also stated that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has assured them that their fixtures will not be moved from Sri Lanka.
A Cricket Ireland official told Cricbuzz, “We have received explicit confirmation that the schedule will remain unchanged. We will definitely play our group-stage matches in Sri Lanka.”
Ireland is in Group C, alongside co-host Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, and Oman. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is in Group B with West Indies, England, Nepal, and Italy. Bangladesh’s matches are scheduled in Kolkata and Mumbai.
Currently, Bangladesh is hesitant to travel to India, prompting the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to propose a group change to the ICC. The issue was discussed in a meeting on Saturday in Dhaka, attended by BCB President Md Aminul Islam, Vice Presidents Shakawat Hossain and Faruk Ahmed, Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Nazmul Abedin, and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
ICC representatives Gaurav Saxena (attending online due to visa issues) and Andrew Figgrefe were present. The discussions were constructive, and it was agreed to continue talks. The T20 World Cup will take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
