Cricket Ireland Confirms Group C Matches to Remain in Sri Lanka Amid Bangladesh T20 World Cup Concerns
Cricket Ireland has announced that it will not play its matches in India for the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, the team has received assurances from the ICC that their scheduled matches will remain in Sri Lanka.
A Cricket Ireland official told Cricbuzz, “We have received clear assurance that the schedule will not change. Our group-stage matches will definitely be played in Sri Lanka.”
Ireland is in Group C, alongside co-host Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, and Oman. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is in Group B with England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy, with matches set to take place in Kolkata and Mumbai, India.
Due to Bangladesh’s reluctance to travel to India, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) proposed a group swap to the ICC to resolve the issue. Discussions took place during a meeting in Dhaka on Saturday, considering minimal logistical changes. However, the proposal failed to satisfy either the ICC or Cricket Ireland, meaning Ireland’s group will remain unchanged.
