An intern doctor named Raihan Kabir Emon has been detained and handed over to police by Tangail Medical College Hospital authorities over allegations of installing a hidden camera in the women’s washroom.
On Monday (January 26) afternoon, medical students at the hospital identified Emon. Subsequently, the intern doctors, along with the hospital director, detained him within the hospital premises. Upon receiving news, a magistrate, police, DB police, and army personnel arrived at the scene.
As tensions escalated, the intern doctors’ protest led to Emon being taken into police custody in the evening and later transferred to the DB office.
The incident sparked widespread concern and anger among the hospital’s doctors and staff, who demanded a proper investigation and exemplary punishment.
Tangail Medical College Hospital Director Abdul Quddus said, “On Friday night, a female doctor noticed a pen-like camera in the washroom. When the accused intern tried to snatch it, an argument ensued. After the matter was reported to us, a five-member committee was formed on Sunday. On Monday, hospital staff detained the intern. We contacted the authorities to manage the situation, and police later took him into custody. No formal case has been filed yet, but legal procedures are ongoing.”
Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Adibul Islam added that the intern was detained by police after being reported by the hospital authorities, and legal action will follow upon receiving a written complaint.
