A Class 7 boy’s love for momo took a shocking turn in Uttar Pradesh when his simple craving for the snack led to his family losing jewellery worth nearly Rs 85 lakh.
What began as an innocent food habit quickly turned into a case of manipulation. Three men running a local momo stall allegedly lured the boy with promises of “free momo” and gradually convinced him to bring jewellery from home in exchange.
The incident occurred in Deoria city. According to the complaint, Vimlesh Mishra, a temple priest from Varanasi, said his son had a deep fondness for momo. He alleged that the stall owners exploited this habit to trick the child. They reportedly told the boy that he would receive free momo if he brought jewellery from home. Gradually, the boy handed over several pieces of his family’s jewellery to the men.
The truth came out when Vimlesh’s sister visited their home and asked for her jewellery. Upon opening the cupboard, the family discovered that the items were missing. When questioned, the boy admitted he had given the jewellery to the momo sellers in exchange for free snacks.
Vimlesh subsequently filed a formal complaint naming all three accused. The stolen jewellery is valued at approximately Rs 85 lakh. Following the complaint, police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.
