Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has decided to procure 400,000 new single-journey metro rail tickets to resolve the ongoing shortage. These tickets are sourced from Japan, Thailand, and India, with Japan as the primary supplier and the printing handled in India. According to DMTCL Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf, an initial batch of 20,000 tickets is set to be printed in India and dispatched on December 16, expected to arrive by the month’s end. The shipment will travel by train, which may slightly delay its arrival. The rest of the tickets will be delivered in stages. Currently, 50,000 tickets are required daily for smooth metro rail operations, but only 40,000 are available, leading to the shortfall. The Managing Director also noted that the shortage is partly due to tickets being lost by users, damaged by technical issues, or worn out from regular use.
