Amid a large student and public movement, Sheikh Hasina, who left Bangladesh for India on August 5, is now being referred to by India as the "former Prime Minister" of Bangladesh. During a weekly briefing in New Delhi on Thursday, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed this issue in response to a question. On Tuesday, November 5, following the U.S. presidential election victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump, the Awami League congratulated him, calling Sheikh Hasina the "Prime Minister" of Bangladesh. In this context, a journalist asked Jaiswal whether India views Sheikh Hasina as the "former Prime Minister" or the "exiled Prime Minister" of Bangladesh. Jaiswal responded by reaffirming India's position, stating, "We have already said that she (Sheikh Hasina) is a former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. This remains our stance."
