Between January and September of this year, the messaging platform Imo deactivated over 600,000 accounts in Bangladesh for violating its community guidelines. In an October press release, timed to coincide with Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Imo revealed that 628,000 accounts had been blocked during the first nine months of 2024. Using artificial intelligence (AI), the platform monitors public content, with 90,000 instances of potentially harmful content flagged in the first quarter alone based on user reports. Imo states that its community guidelines, which are enforced consistently, are designed to create a safe, inclusive, and trustworthy environment for all users.
