Incidents of r*ape have alarmingly risen in Bangladesh, with cases surfacing that involve victims as young as 3 and 8 years old. Disturbingly, there have also been reports of such crimes being committed by the victims’ own fathers.
Amid this concerning situation, a statement made by Islamic speaker Abu Taw Haa Muhammad Adnan has sparked controversy after a video from one of his waz mahfils went viral on social media.
In the footage, Abu Taw Haa Muhammad Adnan can be heard saying, "If rape happens, I would say it’s not only the boys who are r-esponsible; the girls are also r-esponsible. Who told you to go out without a mahram? Even Hajj is not obligatory for a woman without a mahram."*
He further elaborates, "A woman is not permitted to travel without a mahram, and even Hajj is not allowed without one."
