Nusrat Jahan Nipa, injured and now in a wheelchair, mourned her 23-year-old son, Rafiul Islam Rafi, who was killed when a brick struck his head during Friday’s earthquake in Kasaituli, Bangshal.
Rafi, a second-year student at Sir Salimullah Medical College, was buried beside his grandfather at Anjuman-e-Gorasthan graveyard in Bogra after Asr prayers on Saturday. His Namaz-e-Janaza took place earlier at Sutrapur Central Eidgah following Zuhr prayers.
The tragedy occurred at 10:38 am on Friday while Rafi and Nipa were buying meat near a local shop. A railing from a five-storey building loosened during the quake, and a falling brick fatally struck Rafi, while Nipa suffered severe injuries to her head, right eye, and hand.
Both were rushed by locals and firefighters to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, where Rafi was pronounced dead on arrival. Nipa was later admitted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital and has now stabilized.
