Eight-year-old Zayma wrote a heartfelt farewell letter to her closest friend, Hiya, who died of dengue at a Dhaka hospital on September 1. The two girls had been best friends since preschool, staying close even after enrolling in different schools.
After hearing about Hiya’s death, Zayma visited the hospital and drew a picture of the two friends holding hands. She wrote, “I love you so much, I will see you again.” The letter was later tied to the rope of Hiya’s coffin as her body was taken home, capturing the heartbreaking goodbye of a young girl to her dearest friend.
