BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has announced that if the party assumes state power in the future, a new department will be established under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to take care of the families of martyrs and the injured of the July 2024 popular uprising. He made this announcement on Sunday (18 January) during a dialogue session with the affected families and injured at the Krishibid Institute auditorium in Dhaka.
At the event, Tarique Rahman spoke with the victims and assured them of state recognition for their sacrifices. He stated, “The July uprising belonged not to any individual, party, or group. This was a movement of the oppressed masses. While 1971 was about independence, July 2024 was about defending that independence.”
He further acknowledged the pain of losing loved ones, saying, “I understand the depth of grief caused by losing family; nothing can erase it.” He emphasized that only by providing full medical care at state expense and ensuring economic rights according to merit can the victims be truly supported. Tarique Rahman promised that if BNP comes to power, implementing these two commitments will be a top priority. Highlighting the importance of building a safe and democratic Bangladesh, he added that failing to establish a accountable state will continue to perpetuate such tragedies.
