President Mohammed Shahabuddin revealed that he had heard about Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as prime minister, but had no official documentation to confirm it. “I made several attempts to obtain the resignation letter but was unsuccessful. Perhaps she didn’t have the time,” he remarked. The president shared this during a conversation with Manab Zamin Chief Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, who inquired about Sheikh Hasina’s resignation letter following her removal from office. Recalling the events, the president mentioned, “At 10:30 a.m. on August 5, Bangabhaban received a call from the prime minister’s residence, informing us that the honourable prime minister was planning to visit Bangabhaban to meet His Excellency the President. Preparations immediately began, but within an hour, another call came, stating she [Hasina] would no longer be coming.” “At some point, I heard she had left the country without informing me. I’m simply sharing the truth as I know it,” he said. “Later, when Army Chief General Waker visited Bangabhaban, I asked if the prime minister had indeed resigned, and his response was the same: ‘I heard she resigned.’ It seems she might not have had the time to inform us properly.”
