Zunaid Ahmed Palak has claimed that he is facing extreme hardship in jail due to financial struggles. He stated that he has to share bread and bananas with other inmates as his meals.
Palak was brought to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka from Kashimpur Central Jail for a case filed at Dhaka Thana during the July popular uprising. He was escorted by police wearing a helmet, handcuffs, and a bulletproof jacket.
He arrived at the court at 11 AM, while the judge entered the courtroom at 11:06 AM. During this time, Palak briefly spoke to journalists. He had also exchanged a few words with other prisoners earlier while walking.
Speaking to lawyers and journalists, Palak said, "I don’t even have money for snacks like puffed rice or noodles. In jail, I share bread and bananas with Suman Bhai (Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman)."
He further remarked, "Life in prison is a great lesson. Everyone should experience at least seven days in jail. Even if I get out, I will still say this." At that moment, the police instructed him to stop speaking, to which he responded, "I am not saying anything illegal."
