During the tenure of the previous Awami League government, actor and presenter Shahriar Nazim Joy sparked attention by referring to Sheikh Hasina as his "mother" in a plea for a plot of land in Purbachal. Recently, Joy stirred controversy again by stating he would call Dr. Muhammad Yunus his "father" if it would help him secure another plot of land. At the premiere of the web film 840, in which he plays a role, Joy addressed questions about his earlier appeal to Sheikh Hasina. He remarked, “I need land. If necessary, I’m ready to call Dr. Yunus ‘father.’” Reflecting on his past remarks, Joy expressed no regrets about calling the former prime minister “mother” but added, “To achieve something, one can refer to someone as father, grandfather, or mother. I’ll continue to do so if needed for my work. However, I did mention that the autocratic tendencies of the previous government and the lives lost during their downfall made it a sensitive matter. I regret referring to the then head of government as my mother in that context.”
