The prime suspect in the rape case of an eight-year-old girl in Magura gave a confessional statement in court today (March 15). Senior Judicial Magistrate Sabyasachi Roy recorded the statement of Hitu Sheikh, who is the father-in-law of the victim’s sister, as reported by Prothom Alo, citing police and court sources.
Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Aiyub Ali stated, "The main accused, who is currently on a seven-day remand, expressed his willingness to confess. The investigating officer then brought him to court around 10:15 am today, where the judge recorded his statement and sent him to jail afterward."
According to court sources, Hitu Sheikh admitted to being solely responsible for the crime. However, specific details about the timing and circumstances of the incident remain unclear. The eight-year-old girl, who was assaulted in Magura on March 5, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday (March 13), sparking outrage and calls for justice.
In response to the heartbreaking news, angry locals set fire to Hitu Sheikh’s house in Nijnanduali village, Magura Sadar upazila, on Friday evening. He is accused of committing the crime with alleged assistance from his son.
