Leaders of the Hindu community assembled yesterday at the Laldighi ground in Chittagong to express their alarm over recent attacks on minority communities and to make an eight-point request to the government. After the August 5 government shift, the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagoron Moncho, which has been in protest for more than two months, demanded legal protection, reparations, and action against mistreatment of minorities.
Pundarik Dham principal and platform spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari said: "The more we are tortured, the more unified we become. Since Bangladesh gained its freedom, Bengali culture has remained united. There is no way to break this oneness.
A special ministry for minorities, the recovery of vested property, the establishment of swift trial courts, the passage of a Minority Protection Act, and proportional representation in Parliament are among the demands. Additionally, the platform claimed that there would be large rallies in each division, followed by a lengthy march to Dhaka. Journalists, attorneys, educators, and Tapnanda Giri Maharaj and Ravishwarananda Puri Maharaj were among the other speakers at the gathering.
