In Rangamati’s Barunakchari area, a mother elephant has been staying beside her dead calf for two days. The young elephant, known locally as the “Pink Elephant,” aged around 8–10 months, drowned after falling from a steep hill into Kaptai Lake on Monday (20 October). Despite forest department's efforts to retrieve the body, the mother remained close, showing signs of distress and guarding the site. Veterinary teams have examined the area, and a three-member committee is investigating the cause of death. Authorities have urged locals to maintain distance as the mother and her herd stay nearby.
