Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that neither she nor her family need to lead the Awami League, signaling a potential shift in the party’s future direction. Speaking to Reuters from her exile in New Delhi, Hasina remarked, “It’s really not about me or my family.”
Hasina, who left Bangladesh following the 2024 uprising, emphasized the importance of constitutional governance and political stability, noting that the Awami League’s leadership should not be limited to her family. She said the party’s contribution to Bangladesh’s future must transcend individual or dynastic control.
Analysts view the interview as a possible indication of changes in the Awami League’s internal leadership and succession strategy, as political realignments continue and the country prepares for upcoming national elections.
