The government has promulgated the Smoking and Use of Tobacco Products (Control) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. Under the new law, selling tobacco or tobacco products within restricted areas will carry a maximum fine of Tk 5,000.
The ordinance was issued late Tuesday night by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law. The new provisions have been incorporated by amending the original 2005 law.
The ordinance clearly states that no individual may sell, or cause to be sold, tobacco or tobacco products within 100 metres of educational institutions, hospitals, clinics, sports facilities, or children’s parks.
