The interim government, led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has officially canceled eight national observances, including National Mourning Day, Children's Day, and the historic March 7th. This decision was made during an advisory council meeting last September due to current circumstances. On October 7, former Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain informed relevant departments about the cancellations and instructed them to take necessary actions. Sources from the Chief Advisor's office revealed that five of the canceled days are associated with significant events in Sheikh Hasina's family, including March 17 (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birthday), August 5 (Sheikh Kamal's birthday), August 8 (Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib's birthday), August 15 (Bangabandhu’s death anniversary), and October 18 (Sheikh Russel Day). The cancellation also includes National Constitution Day on November 4 and Smart Bangladesh Day on December 12.
