Bangladesh is preparing to officially demand $4.52 billion from Pakistan as its rightful share of assets dating back to pre-1971, which includes misallocated foreign aid, unreturned provident funds, and various savings instruments. This issue will be addressed during foreign secretary-level discussions scheduled for 17 April in Dhaka, marking the first such talks in 15 years. One of the significant claims is the mismanagement of $200 million in foreign aid, which was sent following the 1970 Bhola cyclone. The funds were diverted from Dhaka to Lahore during the Liberation War. Bangladesh has gathered comprehensive evidence, including records of unpaid government debts, withheld funds meant for civil servants, and savings that were converted and held in Pakistani banks. Additionally, the government has honored several outstanding liabilities from pre-independence bonds and certificates that Pakistan has yet to settle.
