The government has initiated reforms to make higher education more skill and employment oriented. Under a draft plan of the Ministry of Education, honours programs in about six subjects, including Bangla, history, and philosophy, may be discontinued or merged with other disciplines. At the same time, emphasis will shift toward IT, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, outsourcing, and other technical fields. Freelancing training, career centers, and the teaching of seven foreign languages are also being considered. The plan is still under discussion and a final decision will follow consultations. Authorities also plan to reduce subjects and exam duration in SSC and HSC to ease academic pressure and keep regular classes running. From 2028, a new curriculum may introduce sports and cultural studies from grade four, and technical-vocational education and “learning with happiness” from grade six, along with third-language learning. The National University is also undergoing reforms toward skill-based education, aiming at employability.
