Bangladesh will import 180,000 tonnes of diesel from India between January and December this year under a government-approved agreement. The fuel will be purchased from India’s state-owned Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) at an estimated cost of around Tk 1,461.76 crore. The decision was approved by the government’s advisory committee on public procurement, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
Officials stated that the diesel will be imported under a long-term agreement with India that has been in place since 2016. The fuel will be transported through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, operational since March 2023. The government clarified that this import is part of an existing 15-year contract, aimed at ensuring a consistent fuel supply to meet the country’s energy needs.
