The Bangladeshi government is set to formalize the country’s growing freelancing sector by introducing a registration system and ID cards for freelancers. A digital platform has been developed to manage the National Freelancer Registration and ID Card program. According to a press release from the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, the initiative will be officially launched on Tuesday.
Registered freelancers will be able to access a range of benefits through their ID cards, including banking services, loans, credit cards, financial incentives, and government and private-sector training programs.
The press release highlighted that this marks a milestone for Bangladesh’s freelancing sector. The platform, freelancers.gov.bd, has successfully completed vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, ensuring its security and technical reliability.
The launch is expected to strengthen connections between freelancers and banks, government institutions, and the private sector, boosting opportunities for self-employment, foreign currency earnings, and tech-based jobs. The ministry hopes this strategic initiative will elevate Bangladesh’s digital economy to new heights.
