Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged again. Following the latest adjustment, 22-carat gold is now priced at Tk 262,440 per bhori, while 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 250,484 per bhori.
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) announced the new rates on Monday, citing rising international gold prices and an increase in the local cost of acid gold.
According to Bajus, a meeting of the Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring was held on Monday to review the situation, considering the rising global prices of acid gold and silver. The committee unanimously decided to implement the new domestic prices for gold and silver starting Tuesday.
Under the revised structure, the per-gram price of 22-carat cadmium (hallmarked) gold is Tk 22,500, 21-carat cadmium gold is Tk 21,475, and 18-carat gold is Tk 18,410. Traditional-method gold has been fixed at Tk 15,140 per gram.
Silver prices have also been raised. The per-gram price of 22-carat cadmium silver is Tk 665, 21-carat silver is Tk 635, 18-carat silver is Tk 545, and traditional-method silver is Tk 410.
Bajus said the new prices will apply to all jewellery stores nationwide until further notice. Jewellers have also been instructed to collect the government-mandated 5% VAT from customers and deposit it into the state treasury.
The announcement was confirmed in a statement signed by Dr. Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, Chairman of the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.
