For the third day in a row, thousands of Gazipur workers have blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in protest of their unpaid pay. The workers have refused to leave until their demands are granted, despite numerous attempts by the military and police to get them to clear the roadways. Despite earlier agreements and assurances from business owners, the workers are protesting the nonpayment of their September and October wages.
The employees, who haven't received their pay cheque since September, allege that the factory's management has broken earlier promises to pay unpaid wages. As they continue to negotiate with the factory owners and workers, local officials are finding it difficult to restore normal traffic flow due to the continued roadblock.
