Mohammad Shamim, who hails from Sonargaon, relocated to Australia in 2007 after completing his post-graduate studies. While enrolled at Deakin University, he began working at a fast-food shop, starting out behind the counter. “I washed dishes, cleaned tables, and saved every penny I could,” he fondly recalls. Through unwavering dedication and hard work, Shamim climbed the ranks—from a part-time employee to a manager, and eventually to the owner of over 100 Subway outlets spread across Australia. Today, he employs more than 2,000 people. His journey began with a single outlet, which he purchased with the help of loans and generous support from his family and friends. He expanded his business significantly, even during the COVID-19 pandemic when many others were withdrawing from the industry. Now, his businesses generate an impressive annual turnover of 150 million Australian dollars. Despite his remarkable success, Shamim remains humble and committed to giving back. He is actively exploring ways to bring Bangladeshi suppliers into his supply chain, with the aim of investing in and contributing to the growth of his homeland.
