The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh has arrested Syed Sohanur Rahman, son of former Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) driver Syed Abed Ali Jibon, over allegations of amassing illegal wealth and involvement in question paper leaks.
ACC Public Relations Officer Md. Aktarul Islam confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, January 20.
Syed Sohanur Rahman was the Relief and Disaster Management Secretary of the banned Dhaka North branch of Chhatra League. He was expelled from the organization after his name surfaced in the question paper leak scandal.
On January 5, 2025, the ACC filed three separate cases against Syed Abed Ali Jibon, his wife Shahrin Akter Shilpi, and their son Syed Sohanur Rahman Syam, accusing them of illegally acquiring BDT 5.37 crore in assets and engaging in abnormal transactions worth around BDT 45 crore. Today, Syam was shown as arrested in one of these cases.
Earlier, in July 2024, the Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested 17 people, including Syed Abed Ali, in connection with the PSC question paper leak. During the investigation, the ACC also launched an inquiry against him.
It is worth noting that Abed Ali and his son Sohanur Rahman Syam had previously been arrested for allegedly being involved in the question paper leak scheme for recruitment to the Bangladesh Railway’s Sub-Assistant Engineer positions.
