The body of Dhirendra Kumar Roy, 71, a former teacher at Notre Dame College, was recovered from his residence in Kalabagan, Dhaka. According to his family, police said he had died by suicide.
He was rescued from his home at 188 Green Road on Monday morning (August 24) and taken to Green Life Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 9:15am following examinations.
Kalabagan Police Station Sub-Inspector Atiqur Rahman said on Tuesday morning that Roy’s daughter found him at home and, with the help of neighbours, took him to the hospital’s emergency department.
The SI said Roy’s wife, Deepali Roy, is a schoolteacher and had gone to work that morning while their daughter was asleep at home. The family told police that the incident occurred while she was sleeping.
According to the family, Roy had been struggling with depression for a long time and had been receiving psychiatric treatment since 2025. Police also learned that both of his brothers had previously died by suicide.
