Former Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Atiqul Islam has been jailed after being shown arrested in three murder cases filed at Mohammadpur police station. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider issued the order on Thursday following a hearing. Investigators submitted petitions to show his arrest, while defense lawyers sought bail, which was opposed by the prosecution. The cases involve the killings of Md Al Shahriar Hossain, autorickshaw driver Md Roni, and seventh-grader Rakib during joint attacks by police, Chhatra League, and Awami League amid recent protests. Atiqul Islam was arrested by Tejgaon police on Wednesday evening in Dhaka’s Mohakhali DOHS area.
