Severe flooding has struck Sherpur district, triggered by heavy rainfall and an influx of water from upstream sources. Reports indicate that seven people have lost their lives so far. Over 200 villages across 28 unions in five upazilas have been submerged, impacting more than 150,000 individuals. On Saturday morning, army personnel joined rescue operations in Nalitabari upazila, collaborating with local authorities, volunteer organizations, and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Water levels in the Maharshi, Someshwari, Chellakhali, Bhogai, and Mrigi rivers have risen above danger levels. The flood situation has deteriorated in Sherpur Sadar and Nakla upazilas, with six additional unions inundated since Saturday morning. According to the District Fisheries Officer, over 2,057 fish enclosures have been destroyed in Jhenaigati and Nalitabari upazilas, leading to an estimated loss of more than 110 million taka. "One person died in Nakla on Saturday night, while five fatalities were reported in Nalitabari upazila and one in Jhenaigati due to the floods," stated Habibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Nakla Police Station. District Commissioner Tarfadar Mahmudur Rahman emphasized, "Several rivers in the district are flowing above the danger mark. The district and upazila administrations are on high alert. We are actively working to rescue those affected and provide them with dry food."
