The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced on Monday (30 December) that mobile courts will be deployed to prevent the use of fireworks, firecrackers, and sky lanterns during New Year's Eve celebrations. As per the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006, such activities are considered punishable offenses. First-time offenders may face up to one month in jail, a fine of five thousand taka, or both. Repeat offenders could face up to six months' imprisonment, a fine of ten thousand taka, or both. The ministry explained that fireworks and firecrackers contribute to noise and air pollution, while sky lanterns pose fire hazards and threaten biodiversity. Letters addressing these concerns have been sent to various clubs and organizations in Dhaka.
