Fire service personnel rescued a 12-year-old housemaid, Shahnaz, who was found on a building's sunshade in Elephant Road on February 26. The incident occurred around 11:30 am, and the fire service arrived at 11:50 am, successfully rescuing her by 12:15 pm, confirmed Fire Service and Civil Defense Media Officer Talha Bin Zasim. Shahnaz, from Gouripur, Mymensingh, was found sitting on an outdoor air conditioning unit on the sunshade of Prince Tower. Talha mentioned the family employing Shahnaz claimed she was mentally unstable.
Mahmud, the house owner, said they had been searching for Shahnaz since morning, reviewing CCTV footage, but couldn't locate her. Local residents and passersby later spotted her on the sunshade of the 16th floor and informed the authorities. The fire service was then alerted. Around 1 p.m., the police took the couple and the child to the police station.
Mohsin Uddin, officer-in-charge of New Market Police Station, stated that Shahnaz was sent to the hospital. After treatment, she will be reunited with her family. He mentioned that the child’s speech seemed slurred, possibly indicating mental issues, and there were no signs of torture.
