Nine individuals, including two women, were arrested early Thursday morning at the Beijing Hotel in Uttara for allegedly extorting money while posing as coordinators of an anti-discrimination student movement. The suspects, identified as Cynthia Kabir (25), Khan Mohammad Walid (27), Kazi Zubayel (22), and six others, reportedly entered the hotel around 2 a.m., conducted an unauthorized search, and demanded a bribe of 500,000 BDT, accusing the hotel of engaging in illicit activities. They managed to seize 120,000 BDT from the reception before being detained. While some suspects managed to escape, those captured were handed over to the Uttara West Police, where a case (number 44) was filed against them. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
