Former Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, 78, passed away today (29 September) while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He had been in jail custody since his arrest on 24 September last year at his Gulshan residence.
Prison authorities said Humayun was admitted to the hospital for advanced treatment of uncontrolled bowel and bladder disease. His condition worsened, and he was moved to the ICU on the 5th floor of the hospital’s old building around 4 pm on 28 September. Despite intensive care, he died at approximately 8:10 am today.
A veteran Awami League leader, Humayun served as the industries minister in the previous government and was a former MP from Narsingdi-4. He faced several cases, including one linked to the killing of labour leader Jahangir Hossain during a clash at an Anti-Discrimination Student Movement protest in Madhabdi on 4 August last year.
