On the evening of 25 November 2025, a massive fire swept through Dhaka’s Korail Slum, destroying nearly 1,500 homes and leaving thousands homeless. Among the victims was a young JAAGO School student who arrived at school that night with her mother, both still carrying the smell of smoke from their lost home.
Despite losing everything, the girl quietly sat on a bench, looked at her empty hands, and tearfully said, “Miss … amar boi gula shesh hoye gelo. Amar porikkha asey.” A teacher soon brought her books from the cupboard and placed them in her lap. With ash still on her fingers, she entered her classroom, took her usual seat, opened her book, and began studying for the exam scheduled for tomorrow. After losing it all, the only thing she clung to was her hope for tomorrow.
