A Dhaka court has sentenced Evaly MD Mohammad Russell and his wife, chairman Shamima Nasrin, to two years in prison in a check fraud case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra announced the verdict on January 29, also fining them Tk 10,000 each. If unpaid, they face an additional two months in jail.
As they are absconding, the court issued arrest and sentence warrants, said plaintiff’s lawyer Tausif Mahmud.
The case stems from Toufiq Mahmud’s orders for three Yamaha R15 bikes in 2021, totaling Tk 835,000, which Evaly failed to deliver. Given two checks, he was later told not to deposit them due to insufficient funds. After failed attempts to recover the money, he filed the case on February 4, 2024.
