On Monday, Dhaka University (DU) students staged a protest, demanding the disaffiliation of seven government colleges, which they described as a "burden" on the university. They listed six reasons supporting their demands, including concerns over DU's academic focus, administrative strain, and potential damage to its international rankings. Student leader Khairul Ahsan Marjan urged the administration to take action within a week, warning that protests would intensify if disaffiliation calls were ignored. Another student, Maidul Islam, pointed out that these colleges disrupt DU’s academic schedule and divert resources from essential research. The protesters argued that disaffiliation is necessary to protect Dhaka University’s quality and reputation, believing it would enhance the university's global standing and restore its unique identity.
