A legal notice has been issued to cancel the freedom fighters' grandchildren quota, the pet quota for children of Dhaka University (DU) teachers and staff, and the open house quota for DU's 2024-25 academic admission. The notice, sent by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Solaiman Tushar and others, demands that the 5% quota for freedom fighters’ families, 1% for minorities, and 1% for physically challenged individuals remain, but other quotas be removed. The notice claims these quotas violate constitutional principles and the Supreme Court’s rulings, including the 5% job quota for freedom fighters' children. It argues that these quotas are discriminatory, arbitrary, and without rational basis, and threatens legal action if not addressed, including a writ in the Supreme Court.
